This website started with a simple need: better planning.
Guidebooks offer great information and inspiring images, but I often found them difficult to use when it mattered most — out in the field. Finding the nearest suitable location, quickly navigating there using satnav, visualising viewpoints, parking, or understanding how a place might work in winter, for astro, or under changing conditions wasn’t always easy.
Planning before a trip was only half the challenge. Once on location, conditions change. Weather shifts, light improves or fades, and plans need to adapt. Sometimes a coastal view no longer works and a woodland or waterfall is the better option. Other times, a brief window opens for astro or even an aurora, and you need somewhere close, accessible, and suitable — quickly.
This platform was built to support both new and experienced outdoor photographers, especially those balancing photography around jobs, family life, and limited time. It’s for anyone who wants to spend less time guessing and more time being in the right place when conditions align.
Outdoor photography is a balance of planning, patience, adaptability, and a bit of luck. Preparation will only get you so far — getting out there is just as important. This site exists to help you make the most of every opportunity, whether you’re heading out for an hour or planning a longer trip.
For those starting out, this is a place to find the right support: inspiration from others’ work, guidance from experienced photographers, links to training providers, colleges, and universities, and access to learning resources that help build confidence and skills.
For more experienced photographers, it becomes a planning hub — a way to explore further afield, discover new locations, adapt to conditions, and refine your approach.
At its heart, this is a community-led hub. It’s about bringing together locations, planning tools, inspiration, and people. The site promotes the skills, services, and knowledge of individuals, educators, and camera clubs alike — giving visibility to others’ work, encouraging sharing, and supporting photographic journeys at every stage.
This is a place to engage, contribute, and grow.
A place to start your journey — and one to return to as your skills evolve.
